Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation, or TENS, is a non-marcotic pain treatment alternative that uses electrical currents to relieve pain. The electrical currents both disrupt pain signals, preventing them from entering the brain, and promote the release of endorphins in the body to relieve pain. It is a safe, non-habit forming, non-narcotic pain relief alternative that frees users from the risk of addiction or dependency since it does not involve the use of drugs.

TENS or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation units provide back pain relief by sending electrical impulses that disrupt pain signals.

How Does Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Relieve Pain

The TENS device uses electricity at very low voltage levels to "confuse" the pain signals in the body (which are also electrical currents). When these signals are confused, the brain does not receive the signal and the pain is essentially not felt by the user. This produces the effect of pain relief. Shop our TENS Machines

TENS devices use transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation to deliver pain-killing therapy via electrodes

The therapy is administered by a TENS device. It is a temporary pain relief however, it is highly effective. Many patients who cannot treat their pain with traditional medicines or drugs, or who do not wish to risk addiction to opiates, have found great relief using Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). The treatment gives them relief from symptoms in a safe manner. Devices are also very small and can be worn during the day.

When and How Can Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Be Used?

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation works on multiple types of pain. It is commonly used on several different types of back pain including lower back pain, disc pain and sciatica. It is also used on a variety of different muscle pain and nerve pain. TENS can also treat many different types of pain. Users can adjust the settings of the device to their own personal preferences to target their pain. The devices can send different strength signals and various wave lengths to the body. Electrodes can be placed anywhere on the body besides the head and upper neck area, so nearly all parts of the body can be treated by Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation.

What Are the Benefits?

The benefits are many. First, it is a safe pain reliever since it does not use any chemical substance or drugs. It can also be used at home so it is very convenient and requires no hospital visits. The devices are not expensive either, and often much less than narcotic pain killers. They are reusable and only electrodes need replacing. So a single device can be used for a length of time. Since they are adjustable, most patients are able to find relief from their symptoms. Shop for a TENS device here.
